Improve Your Golf Swing

To improve your golf swing there isn’t one magic bullet, or one piece of information or advice. You must take your golf swing apart, and look at each piece of it and make improvements where you can.

Let’s look at the various parts of the golf swing that you need to consider to improve your golf swing.

1. Setup or Address

Ensuring your setup is correct and the same for every shot is an important element to improve your golf swing. If you aren’t consistent and vary your setup slightly for each shot, you may find that your club face comes through at a slightly different angle every time.

2. Grip

There are basically three different golf grips that you can use. Whichever one you are using, go through and check that everything is by the book. The most important thing to consider is to grip the club lightly. Many players tend to grip the club far too firmly which will not provide the best result. Having a proper golf club grip is the starting point to improve your golf swing.

3. Takeaway

When you start your backswing, make sure that you keep the club head low to the ground. Low and long and slow is the best way to start into your backswing.

4. Backswing

The keys to a good backswing are good body rotation, a smooth movement, and getting your hands and club face set in the right position. At the top of the backswing your back should be facing the target, your hands in a high position with the wrists cocked, and the club face should be in line with the target.

5. Transition to Downswing

Don’t be in a hurry to start the downswing. There should be a slight pause at the top.

6. Downswing

Here is where you get the power into your shot. Power is not strength, but rather the speed that the club head moves. The wrists should remain cocked until you get towards the bottom of the swing. As you straighten the wrists, the club head will come through much faster. Your weight should be transferring to the left foot as you finish the downswing. At the time of contact, you should be square on with the ball.

7. Follow Through

The follow through is often overlooked. Developing a good follow through is vital to improve your golf swing. Make sure you hit through the ball and allow your body to uncoil. Keep your head and eyes down for as long as you can, and at the end of the follow through you should be facing the target.

If you can work through each of these components of the swing and make some corrections, you should be on the way to improve your golf swing.

How To Hit A Golf Ball Further

So you want to know how to hit a golf ball further. The information from all the professional golfers has been gathered and the results are in.

If you want to be able to hit a golf ball further, the number one tip is physical conditioning. There is nothing that will take the place of your physical conditioning. You must have the flexibility, core strength, shoulder strength, and leg strength as well. Flexibility is a key issue in golf, so as you get older it is important to exercise regularly to maintain your flexibility, which is essential for keeping a fluid stroke.

The second tip for knowing how to hit a golf ball further is being loose. Stretch and do some exercises to help you get loose. You will never drive a golf ball 300 yards when you are tight, and not loosening up could be a recipe for disaster by the way of pulled muscles.

Next you will want to remember that to hit a golf ball farther is a matter of physics. The wider your stroke is the further you are going to be able to hit the ball. So think wide. Start with your ball a little more further forward and give yourself a little more space. Get it wider at the top of your stroke but more importantly get it wider through the ball.

Proper Golf Club Grip

What is the secret to a great golf game? A perfect golf swing. A great golf swing begins with proper golf club grip. Golf pros, executives, weekend hackers, and average Joes from all over the world will say, that for you to have a perfect golf swing, you must get a grip. A proper golf club grip that is. You may not have known, but there is not just one proper golf club grip – there are many.

The Vardon Overlap is the one most used by the best golfers. This grip is also called the overlapping grip, because the overlapping of your hands help them work together.

The Vardon Overlapping grip is done by taking the little finger on the trailing hand and place it between the index and middle finger on the lead hand (for right-handed golfers, the lead hand is the left). The lead hand thumb should fit in the lifeline of the trailing hand.

A fundamentally proper golf club grip helps you to generate power in your golf swing, while an improper golf club grip does the opposite and takes away power and accuracy. There is a variation on the overlapping golf club grip called the interlocking grip, and it is the second most popular type of grip. The interlocking grip locks the hands together, but the golfer takes a risk of having the handle stray into the palms of the hands.

With the interlocking golf grip the little finger of the trailing hand (for a right – handed golfer it’s the right hand) locks with index finger of the lead hand, the lead hand thumb should fit in the lifeline of the trailing hand. Finally the most recognized proper golf club grip is the Ten Finger grip or (Baseball Grip) as it’s sometimes called. The Ten Finger grip is the least favorite amongst the  pros and golf teachers, however, LPGA  Hall of Fame member Beth Daniel, PGA Tour members Bob Estes and Dave Barr and Masters Champion Art Wall Jr. have all used the Ten Finger grip.

How To Stop The Golf Putting Yips

Golf putting yips is the term for a  dreaded putting condition that afflicts many golfers. For some golfers just hearing the name makes you start to shiver. Don’t be fooled. The yips are not a nervous condition as we have been led to believe.

Golf putting yips is actually the manipulation of the putter at the point of impact. This is normally based around the players inability to aim. If a players eyesight changes, then their perception of a straight line changes. Even though the player thinks that they are aimed perfect, they are a little off in that aim. Even if the player makes a good stroke that ball’s not going to go into the cup.

As a result the player starts to manipulate the putter during the stroke. Now eventually over a period of weeks, months, maybe even years , this manipulation of the putter will settle in the dominant hand, and as it does, as the putter starts to come into the ball, then the hands are going to try to manipulate the putter back on line.
